This decision follows the development of a successful inhouse prototype made available to MEPs and selected outsiders towards the end of 2007. The creation of this channel has been the source of a considerable number of technical, organisational and political challenges. All the material has had to be prepared in up to 23 languages, the development of the programmes has required new forms of cooperation between the Parliament and the companies it has asked to assist it in the creation of the channel and a lively debate has been generated in the institution and outside as to the extent to which it can produce credible programmes for European citizens. The purpose of the workshop will be to enable those involved in the development of the project to explain in more detail the nature of the different challenges that they have faced and to encourage a general discussion about the way in which the channel should best be developed once it goes online, taking account of changing technologies, viewer preferences and broader attitudes towards the use of the internet in political communication.
