The purpose of this panel is to explore the nature and implications of these changes, with special emphasis on the breadth of applications engaging mobile devices in global contexts. Various applications for improving work productivity as well as enhancing voice, location, and entertainment services will be reviewed. Additionally, forecasts for tomorrow’s mobile devices will be presented and discussed. How this evolution in mobile technologies and applications is transforming various industries – including, education, travel, supply chain optimization, and secure e-customs in international trade – will be presented. Particular attention will be given to prospects, challenges, and societal impact as well as various research challenges and opportunities as we rapidly move toward this exciting future.
